Missing Son Haunts Famous Photographer

Missing Son of Art Shay Art Shay has photographed the famous, the notorious, the ordinary and people who were largely forgotten and ignored. Alive for nearly a century, he is a well known photographer and writer. His works are widely recognizable and have become part of history. He was also a family man who had several children. It is the mystery of his eldest son Harmon, that haunted him and his wife.

According to a piece that Art Shay wrote, his son was a genius. He had scored a perfect score on his college SAT Exams. He even invented his own electric rollerskate and personal computer years before Steve Jobs and Bill Gates were developing their famous companies. Harmon for all his positive attributes got involved in the taking of illicit drugs. Shay believes that his 20 year old son Harmon was murdered in the Hippie Drug lifestyle in the Miami Dade area in May of 1972. It is possible that he was murdered in the Miami or Fort Lauderdale areas of Florida. However, it is always a possibility that Harmon could have left his life behind to start a new one and cut off contact with his family. A Strange Series of Disappearances, Sinister or Supernatural?

Every state has areas which are deemed to be haunted and have folklore. For residents that live in or near Bennington, Vermont; questions still persist in several disappearance that occurred sixty years prior. From 1945 to 1950, several people vanished without a trace primarily in the woods near Glastenbury Mountain.

The first case happened on November 12, 1945 when a 74-year-old mountain guide named Middie Rivers got ahead of his group only to disappear. He had been last seen not far from U.S. Route 9 in the area of the Long River Trail Road.

Eighteen-year-old Bennington college student Paula Welden vanished while taking a hike on December 1, 1946, on the Long Trail. She had been seen by other hikers but the young lady from Stamford Connecticut never turned up anywhere since.

The saddest of the disappearances occurred in the middle of October in 1950 when eight year old Paul Jepson went missing from a farm where he and his mother were at. The mother claimed she left him alone to play, but he disappeared. A massive search took place but Jepson was never located.

The last confimred disappearance happened on October 28, 1950, when Freida Langer had to turn back to go home after falling on a hike with her cousin. The fifty-three year old never made it back. Several searches were done and on May 12, 1951, herskeletal remains were found near Somerset Reservoir. Her manner and cause of death were never determined.

There were other stories about a group of three hunters missing during the last 1940s. There is also the case of a man named Tedford who on December 1, 1949, vanished from a crowded bus. These two have never really been able to be confirmed but they add to a mysterious legend about the place.

It is likely that some of the missing could have died of exposure or hypothermia. Paul Jepson could have been abducted or worse a victim of homicide. Others have suggested that the area is a little type of Bermuda Triangle.

Fate of Legendary Scientist’s Daughter a Mystery

Albert Einstein is one of the most famous scientists and geniuses known to mankind. There is however, a strange mystery. What happened to his first child born in 1902? Some letters found between Einstein and his first wife, Mileva Marić, indicate that they might have had a child out of wedlock named Lieserl. According to fiction novelist Tim Symonds, there are three possible outcomes as to what may have become of Einstein’s first child. The child may have been adopted by a friend in Belgrade, Serbia. Another theory is that she may have been left at a home for severely physically and mentally-handicapped children. The third standard theory is that Lieserl could have died during a Scarlet Fever epidemic that took the lives of between 400 to 1000 children in the Novi Sad area at the time. However, after several years of investigating, author Tim Symonds has come to a startling conclusion, his 'Fourth Theory', that the child was a victim of a mercy-killing, with Einstein's consent, at the age of 21 months.

For more information about this case visit Tim Symond’s blog about the subject. Symonds is a fiction novelist and has written a historical fiction book about the subject that involves the infamous Sherlock Holmes character. However, while his novel is fiction, what happened to Lieserl Einstein is a real life enduring mystery.

She had brown hair and eyes. At the time of her disappearance she wore a gold ring with her initial DS.

Fate Of Man With Dementia Still Unclear

It was December 3rd, 1946 when 72 year old when Davis C. Faunce went missing from the Dartmouth Infirmary at 3am with just his undergarments on. A search went on for several days afterward but no traces of the Dartmouth, Massachusetts resident were ever found. At the time of his disappearance, Faunce was suffering from a form of Dementia. It is possible that he was trying to get back to his home and died of hypothermia. But it is odd, that despite the uses of bloodhounds his trace was lost. One bloodhound lost his scent near Pauline Street which is not far from New Bedford. In 1955, remains were found an unidentified man (who hung himself) in the town of Fall River, a medical examination did not identify the remains as Faunce. IT is not known if those remains found a wooded area on a path from Bellrock Road in Fall River were ever identified. Despite the passage of time, the grandchildren of Davis Faunce still wonder what happened to their grandfather.

Vanished Without A Trace

Perhaps no case in Connecticut history with the exception of the Martha Moxley murder in Greenwich has received more national attention than the disappearance of ten year old Connie Smith. During July 16th, 1952, the young Wyoming girl who was staying at Camp Sloane in Salisbury had wandered from the campgrounds after some rough play with fellow campers. She was seen heading for the village of Lakeville walking along Route 44 in Salisbury, thumb extended looking for a ride. That was the last recollection anyone has had of the young camper being alive. Following the disappearance, there was a massive manhunt. Police scoured the New York/ Connecticut border for clues and her possible remains. Police also had numerous potential suspects which included the camp cook, the camp caretaker, nearby workers and deliverymen. Eventually the case went national on the Art Linkletter show and while it garnered much needed publicity for the case, it produced many dead end leads and false confessions. Now fifty years later, there is still no trace of Connie Smith. Her father still ever hopeful, never gave up on trying to find her alive. Author Michael Dooling recently wrote a book about her disappearance named, "Clueless in New England" .

Is There A Connection Between the Disappearances and Deaths of these Women in New Haven?

Evelyn Frisco was forty two years old, when she was last seen in New Haven of June 2004. The New Haven resident had not had an easy life, she battled substance abuse issues, served prison time for criminal offenses and was at times a prostitute. Law Enforcement and members of her family believe she is dead and probably a victim of foul play. According to her family, Frisco had given information to the New Haven Police that led to an arrest of a drug dealer. The family believes that someone could have paid Frisco back. One of Frisco’s friendss was a woman named Lisa Calvo. Calvo was also a prostitute who battled substance abuse issues. She was last seen in October of 2005. New Haven Police have released a statement indicating if the two disappearances were connected. At the time of her last sighting, Frisco had blue eyes, blonde hair, weighed 125 pounds and was 5 foot 2. She has a tattoo of a butterfly or a rose on her shoulder, a scar on her leg and she wore upper dentures. Calvo was 4 foot 11 and weighed 110 pounds. She had brown hair and eyes and had tattoos on her right leg and thigh. Calvo was forty years old at the time of her last sighting.

Another case of a woman with substance abuse issues was that of Cassandra Mead of East Haven. She was found strangled to death in late August of 2011 at Union and Water Street. What is unusual is that the area is a block away from the New Haven Police Department. The 21 year old had a criminal past and had suffered from Bi-Polar disorder. The murder was particularly brazen because it is near the downtown and so close to a police presence.
